Paint the town red

I feel today deserves another post because there is a controversial subject that is currently overtaking facebook. The Human Rights Campaign Facebook page asked people to wear red and to make their Facebook profiles red to show support for marriage equality. My facebook profile is currently red and I've been 'sharing' posts about marriage equality since yesterday. To be honest it's something that I feel very strongly about. Growing up, being gay was never something that was weird or gross or odd to me. I have a cousin who is a lesbian, during my childhood she was one of my closest friends, my siblings and other cousins spent tons of time with her.
In high school my best friend went to a different school than me, eventually we lost contact, I later found out it was because she had a girlfriend and was afraid that I would think differently of her. In retrospect, I wish she would of told me because I would have probably been the most accepting and supportive person in her life when it came to that.

If when my son grows up he comes to me some day to tell me that he wants to marry a man, I want him to be able to.
With all the controversy on facebook we are of course going to see exactly how our friends feel about this subject. One post by a friend struck a nerve, she posted that she doesn't hate gay people, but that she's sick of all the equal rights posts. She also stated that she will love a person regardless as to who they love yet she doesn't support gay marriage.
WHAT?!? How can you claim to love someone and yet not support their decisions? How can you love someone and then tell them that you don't believe that they should have the same rights as you do? How does that make any sense?
If you're in my life, I love you, regardless of race, gender or who you love because that's what I was taught was right. And that's exactly how my children will be raised.
